New directions

We have been wondering what it is that the Wiimote will do that can't be done easier with a mouse, or even a pen and paper.

We thought for some time and have concluded that there are some excellent high end applications that could be created that simulate a number of real world situations, though these would be expensive, time consuming, and require a high level of programming skills to create them.

The biggest difference between using Wiimotes and a mouse is that applications can accept multiple Wiimote inputs, up to four, but only one mouse can be used in other traditional applications. This opens up opportunity for collaboration and other multiuser applications.

For the rest of this project we are going to use what we have already learnt, and found, to create some basic applications that show how to get :
  • one Wiimote working and interacting
  • one to four Wiimotes working and interacting
  • and finally, getting those Wiimotes to use as many of the innate Wiimote functions as possible.

Doing this will show others how to program other basic Flash and Wii applications using similar ideas. Hopefully this will help to trigger discussions about other ways Flash and Wiimotes could be used in unique Wiinovative ways.

Some examples we are looking into creating are:
